Lucas Boudet

It is with great sadness that we were informed of the passing of Lucas Boudet, a distinguished figure in the global marketing and advertising community. Lucas, who passed away few days ago, was an empathetic and insightful individual, known for his exceptional ability to navigate the complexities of international advertising and marketing standards and policy development.

As the Director General of the European Advertising Standards Alliance (EASA) and Vice-Chair of the Global Marketing and Advertising Commission at the International Chamber of Commerce, Lucas played a key role in the revision of the ICC Code of Marketing and Advertising.

The ICC Code is a fundamental framework that guides ethical marketing practices worldwide, ensuring fairness and transparency in advertising. Honesty, fairness, and openness were not only the cornerstone values of the ICC Code but also key characteristics of Lucas as a human being.

His leadership was pivotal, and his representation of EASA during the Pre-Summit European Consumer Day, organized by BAM in cooperation with EASA, ICC, and FEDMA under the auspices of the Belgian Presidency of the European Union, was marked by his dedication and expertise. The Pre-Summit was a key event for the industry, focusing on innovative approaches to enhancing consumer trust and protection in the digital age. We are deeply grateful for Lucas's invaluable contributions to these collaborative efforts.

Lucas had a unique ability to see differences as opportunities to unite rather than to divide, bringing people together to achieve common goals. In these efforts, Lucas and his colleagues from the industry at large were united by shared values of integrity, transparency, and a commitment to promoting ethical marketing practices, which were foundational to the meaningful progress made at the Pre-Summit.

Throughout his career, Lucas demonstrated a remarkable capacity to bridge cultural differences and align diverse perspectives towards sustainable goals. His strategic insight and understanding of global nuances made him a true citizen of the world, fostering international collaboration with ease. His ability to discern what was possible from the impossible and to courageously advocate for realistic and achievable outcomes set him apart as a visionary leader. Lucas was known for his relentless pursuit of excellence; he always went to the end of the road, and even when the sky was the limit, he aimed to go beyond it. He had the rare art of making things possible, no matter the challenge, and was always a reliable man who could make complex issues simple and understandable. Truly, Lucas was a solid man in every sense of the word.

Colleagues who had the privilege of working with Lucas describe him as a gentleman, distinguished by his fine personality, subtle sense of humor, and unwavering commitment to balancing appropriateness and adequacy in decision-making. His easygoing nature and exceptional capacity to listen made him approachable, and while he was serious and focused at work, he was also a very pleasant and enjoyable person to get along with. His role in fostering positive discussions, encouraging teamwork, and providing support to his colleagues left a lasting impact on those around him.

Lucas's career spanned various significant positions, including his role as Secretary General at the French Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Executive Director at the Franco-Thai Chamber of Commerce, and Director at the Chambre Française de Commerce et d'Industrie de Belgique. His last and most impactful position was as Director General of the European Advertising Standards Alliance (EASA), where he demonstrated his dedication to ethical advertising and international cooperation. In each role, he brought his analytical skills, strategic vision, and unwavering commitment to advancing the organizations and people he worked with. I had the honor to participate in his journey during these last years, witnessing firsthand his passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to making a positive impact.

His colleagues, team members, and friends will miss him dearly. Lucas's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the lasting contributions he made to the field of marketing and advertising.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Lucas’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire us in the pursuit of excellence and integrity in our work.

"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Lucas believed in the power of self-reliance and personal empowerment, always striving to make a meaningful impact. His life was a testament to these values, reminding us all that the true measure of a person lies not in their happiness but in their ability to inspire, uplift, and make a difference in the world around them.
